Just 15pc of Scotland’s holiday beds have been licensed a month after a registration scheme was introduced, in what Scotland’s short erm rental association president Fiona Campbell calls a lesson for Ireland.
She told the annual conference of the Irish Self Catering Federation: “In Scotland they still don’t know what they’re trying to achieve with this legislation, is it housing is it because we are creating a housing crisis or is it to avert antisocial behaviour which is already legislated or is it basic health and safety? The Scottish government is introduced licensing and what we have seen is that it is being it is an authorisation scheme rather than a registration scheme, so you have to ask permission to be doing what you’ve been doing for decades.”
“This came into effect on October 1st of this year and the numbers that have applied for way short of Scottish government anticipated numbers. Only 15pc have currently received a license, so the big question is are people operating under the radar are they closing up their doors or did they fundamentally get their data wrong?”
