19th Belfast Mela Festival commences on Saturday

Mela artists Jiggy’s Robbie Harris alongside Bollywood dancers Lauren Martin and  Reeshika Mukheijee and Tourism NI’s Fiona Cunningham and Belfast Mela founder Nisha Tandon.

TourismNI has staged a Dublin launch of the 19th Belfast Mela Festival starts on Saturday 16 August, celebrating cultural diversity with events running until 24 August.

The festival features a range of activities, including music, dance, theatre, and art, to showcase the multicultural community in Belfast. Jiggy will headline the World Stage on Mela Day, culminating in a Bollywood finale from ArtsEkta’s South Asian Dance Academy.

Founder of Belfast Mela, Nisha Tandon, expressed excitement for the event’s expansion to Dublin and its aim to bring more visitors together. Tourism NI’s Fiona Cunningham noted the festival’s role in attracting international visitors and enhancing the North’s global tourism reputation.

Nisha Tandon shared, “We are delighted to take the Belfast Mela to Dublin this year for the first time to announce our most ambitious programme of events yet.”

Fiona Cunningham shared, “Tourism NI is delighted to support the Belfast Mela for the first time through our International Tourism Events Fund.”
