FITUR 2026 What’s new and what’s cool in Spain’s ANDALUSIA

0

At FITUR 2026 in Madrid, Andalusia was showcasing its sustainable tourism model in its largest-ever pavilion (over 7,000 square metres), integrating 20 destinations, spaces for Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad, the Puerta de Andalucia product, protected natural areas, and over 200 companies. The stand, themed around light as a narrative element, aims to convey emotional connection and coexistence between visitors and residents.

Andalusia is enhancing its visitor experience in 2026 through a combination of new luxury hotel openings, repositioned properties, and broader initiatives focused on sustainable tourism, innovation, and improved promotion. These developments build on the region’s rich heritage, landscapes, and cultural offerings while prioritising responsible growth.

Several notable hotel projects are set to open or complete major transformations in 2026, particularly emphasising luxury and lifestyle segments along the coast and in historic cities.

It will elevate standards with luxurious facilities, celebrating Andalusian essence and coastal charm as part of Melia Hotels International’s expansion in the region.
  • Hacienda del Mar, Bahia Estepona (also on the Costa del Sol): Originally opened in 1999, this terracotta jewel will undergo full refurbishment and rebranding to become the fifth luxury hotel in Andalucia under The Meli√° Collection. It will highlight subtropical gardens, striking architecture, and a narrative tied to the area’s history.

Visitor Attractions, Experiences, and Enhancements

A key addition is the new itinerary for the Al Åndalus luxury tourist train, launching in 2026 to mark its 40th anniversary. The traditional 7-day, 6-night format will expand for the first time to include Madrid as a starting or ending point, plus stops in Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha alongside classic Andalusian destinations. This will offer an immersive rail journey through historic and scenic routes.

Andalusia’s tourism strategy for 2026 emphasises innovation, promotion, and sustainability under the Plan de Accion del Turismo, with over €120 million in investment. Priorities include strengthening the Andalucia brand, international marketing at major fairs, and fostering cogobernanza (shared governance) with the sector to create memorable, responsible experiences.
