Start your tour at the Cathedral of Granada on Plaza de las Pasiegas, the Renaissance building constructed between 1528 and 1704 with its main facade featuring columns and sculptures and an interior that includes chapels and the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs in the adjacent Royal Chapel from 1505.
From the cathedral, walk south along Calle Reyes Católicos to reach Plaza Nueva, the square from the early 16th century at the base of the Alhambra hill with the Real Chancillería building on one side dating to 1531.
Proceed east along the Carrera del Darro beside the Darro River past the remains of Arab baths and historic houses with wooden balconies from the medieval period.
Ascend into the Albaicín district through narrow cobbled streets and steep lanes lined with whitewashed buildings and small plazas.
Climb to the Mirador de San Nicolás, the viewpoint with open space offering direct sight of the Alhambra across the valley and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background.
The route moves from the central historic area into the lower parts of the Albaicín recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside the Alhambra and covers about two kilometres in total with a duration of around one hour at a moderate pace.
End at the Plaza de San Nicolás beside the viewpoint where the Iglesia de San Nicolás stands with its 16th-century tower and surrounding area of steps and benches.
