Dún Laoghaire has received Purple Flag accreditation for 2026 recognising excellence in a safe inclusive evening and night-time economy with a mix of entertainment dining culture and hospitality from 1700 to 0500. The award follows 18 months of collaboration among Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council Chamber of Commerce An Garda Síochána businesses residents and partners to enhance safety accessibility and experiences. The Purple Flag signals a welcoming vibrant destination balancing activity with wellbeing.
The principal elements include first Purple Flag for Dún Laoghaire in 2026, focus on safe inclusive night-time economy, 18-month community collaboration, criteria covering safety diversity and partnerships, and endorsement of town’s evening appeal.
An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council Cllr Jim Gildea shared “This is a proud moment for Dún Laoghaire and for the wider county. Purple Flag status highlights not only the vibrancy of our town after dark but also our collective commitment to safety inclusivity and community wellbeing”.
