Italian-Irish Chamber Signs Twinning Pact between Dublin and Pompeii

The Italian Irish Chamber of Commerce has hosted a signing ceremony for a twinning pact between Dublin and Pompeii, to promote cultural, tourism, and economic ties. 

The event included talks on historical heritage, panels with experts, and a concert, fostering collaboration between the cities. 

The ceremony concluded on 12 February 2026 to strengthen institutional, cultural and economic ties between Italy and Ireland. The Embassy of Italy in Ireland, Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, ENIT, ITA, Italian-Irish Chamber of Commerce, Municipality of Pompeii and Regione Campania coordinated the event. Ambassador Nicola Faganello and Michela Linda Magrì opened proceedings, followed by presentations on Pompeii’s heritage and addresses from Mayor Andreina Esposito and Dáithí Downey.

Professor Lynda Mulvin delivered a lecture on Pompeii’s archaeological importance, with further remarks from Dr Mario Muscariello and Architect Ferdinando d’Agostino on the region’s richness. The programme included an opera performance by Concetta Pepere and pianist Maja Elliott, plus a reception. Publications from Scripta Maneant, Treccani, Artem and Vision enriched the occasion, with “Pompei. La vita ritrovata” presented to Mayor Esposito and “Essere donna nell’antica Pompei” to Professor Mulvin.

The Italian Embassy shared in a written statement the twinning pact promotes long-term cooperation in culture, tourism and education to enhance heritage promotion and international visibility for both cities.
