IATA expands cargo settlement systems across Latin America

IATA has rolled out expanded cargo offerings in Latin America including the Cargo Accounts Settlement Systems. Mexico has activated CASS Domestic operations in April 2026. Paraguay plans to open CASS Export in the last quarter of 2026 while Brazil prepares for CASS Domestic from early 2027.

Carriers based in the region recorded average growth of 3.3 pc year-on-year in cargo tonne kilometres over the 10 years to April 2026. This produced cumulative growth of 38.8 pc across the decade. Mexico transported over 125000 tonnes of domestic air cargo in 2025 which represented 15.8 pc of total tonnage.

Paraguay handled over 42000 tonnes of air cargo in 2025 after growth of 225.3 pc year-on-year. Brazil recorded over 791000 tonnes of air cargo in 2025 with domestic traffic accounting for 7.9 pc. IATA processed $47.5 billion through CASS globally in 2025 with a 100 pc on-time settlement rate.

Juan Antonio Rodríguez, IATA’s Executive Director for Financial Services, BSP and CASS, shared “IATA has for decades actively supported airlines in Latin America with streamlined payment and settlement systems. The cargo industry has long recognised the value of IATA’s CASS and it now places its trust in IATA to support the growth of domestic markets in Brazil and Mexico and an emerging export market in Paraguay.”
