DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport, has launched a virtual information room to showcase the upcoming planning application to Fingal County Council to accommodate up to 40m passengers each year.
The new infrastructure application will be submitted by daa to Fingal County Council next month, outlining their vision for enhancing facilities, services, and the overall passenger experience at Dublin Airport. The goal is to grow the airport’s capacity sustainably from 32m to 40m passengers annually.
The plan will outline Dublin Airport’s role in Ireland’s economy. It handles the majority of international passengers, facilitates 30pc of Ireland’s exports, and contributes €9.6 billion in gross value added to the Irish economy.
The airport handled 28.1m passengers in 2022, population growth necessitates the ability to handle more than 32m passengers. Sustainable development is crucial to accommodating the demand for growth in tourism, trade, investment, and jobs that aligns with government policy.
Planned improvements include expanding the north and south aprons, enhancing security at Terminal 1, constructing new aircraft stands, improving drainage infrastructure, upgrading airport access and parking facilities, and enhancing the ground transportation centre for smoother bus access to Dublin city centre and other destinations.
The airport says sustainability is a core focus of the infrastructure application, with €500m allocated to projects that align with carbon reduction targets. New buildings will meet or exceed nearly zero-emission standards, and new aircraft stands will use Fixed Electrical Ground Power (FEGP) instead of diesel generators. The virtual information room serves as a resource to inform the public about these investments before the planning application submission.

Formal public engagement will begin in December after the planning application has been submitted.
