Kenya Airways announced the resumption of flights to Kinshasa N’Djili on May 8 after two employees who had been detained by military authorities in the DRC for a couple of weeks were unconditionally released.
The employees, including the airline’s country manager in the DRC, were released following diplomatic negotiations between Kenya and the DRC, with the Kenyan government confirming their release on May 6.
The employees were detained despite a court order for their release, leading to a diplomatic stand-off and the suspension of Kenya Airways’ flights to Kinshasa on April 30.
Kenya Airways has maintained the innocence of its employees in relation to the alleged customs issue, stating they were carrying out their duties in adherence to procedures and will continue to cooperate with investigations.
