Dublin Airport is constructing a 9MWp solar farm on its campus, which will provide more than 10pc of the airport’s electricity supply.
Junior transport minister Jack Chambers visited the airport to witness the development of the solar farm, which is expected to reduce emissions by 51pc by 2030.
Enerpower has already installed 11,000 solar panels at the farm, with plans to add 4,000 more by September.
The solar farm is projected to generate 7.46GWh per annum, covering the electricity needs of the airfield and contributing to the energy needs of airport terminals and campus, helping Dublin Airport to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Cork Airport is also planning a solar farm to provide 30% of its energy needs.
Andrea Carroll, DAA group head of environmental sustainability, said: “The scale of this project marks a sizeable investment in future energy at Dublin Airport and a big shift away from fossil fuels.”
