Cork County Council has published the tender for the motorway section of the M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Project
The project involves upgrading about 12.5km of the N28 National Primary Route from the South Ring Road to Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. Transport Infrastructure Ireland is the funding authority, and the project is part of the government’s Infrastructure and Capital Investment Plan.
The N28 corridor is part of the Trans-European Transport Network, requiring a high-quality road to access the Tier 1 Port at Ringaskiddy designed for motor traffic.
The project aims to support the strategic development of the Port facilities, meet core network service requirements, improve safety and capacity, and enhance access to the M28 corridor in a sustainable manner.
Benefits of the project include reducing traffic impact, improving road safety, facilitating economic development, reducing congestion and travel delays, enhancing journey time reliability, and supporting national and European policies. Planning application for the project was approved by An Bord Pleanála in June 2018, and advanced works are underway.
