World Tapas Day came early for participants in the Taste of Dublin festival in Merrion square at the Taste of Spain stand where chefs from Cambrils, Lanzarote, Grand Canaria and Zaragoza prepared food for guests.
The day was declared in 2016 by Turespaña, Spain’s tourism agency and is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of June, which this year is June 19th.
Traditionally, tapas are small servings of Spanish dishes, often enjoyed with drinks. While traditionally Spanish, the concept of tapas has expanded to include small plates of various cuisines from around the world. It encourages exploring small plate dining, trying Spanish dishes, and sharing the experience with friends and on social media.
The celebration encourages sharing experiences with friends and via social media platforms.
Traditional tapas include dishes such as croquetas, patatas bravas, and tortilla española.
Many restaurants and bars create special offers and events on World Tapas Day, making it an occasion for food enthusiasts.
