Reports from Seoul say potential Dublin route is one of expansions priorities for Korean Air

Reports from Seoul suggest that Korean Air is to prioritise a new direct route from Seoul to Dublin tas p[art of its expansion plans.

The Seoul government expects the merger between Korean Air and Asiana to position the airline as a leading global carrier with enhanced competitiveness. The enlarged airline recently announced a major $36bn (€30bn) deal with Boeing to buy 103 aircraft. At 9,000km, about 700km further than Los Angeles, Dublin to Seoul is within range of the B787.

The Department of Enterprise is planning to introduce a new Strategic Air Access Fund to help establish routes into Ireland from key trade locations.

A report in the Korea Economic Daily shared: “to help Korean Air and Asiana Airlines bolster the competitiveness of their united entity, the government will encourage them to consolidate redundant routes and open new routes to other promising markets in Europe such as Dublin, Ireland and Copenhagen, Denmark.”
