The figures indicate a historic milestone in tourism, receiving 91.5m international visitors from January to November 2025, marking a 3.4pc increase compared to the previous year. These travellers spent a staggering €126.707 euros, up 6.9pc and surpassing the total expenditure for all of 2024. November alone saw 5.8m arrivals, a 2.1pc rise, with key markets including the UK (contributing 20.3pc of spending) and Germany (13.2pc). This surge underscores Spain’s enduring appeal as a top global destination, boosting the economy despite emerging challenges.

Despite the record numbers, foreign tourism in Spain is showing signs of deceleration, with the ambitious goal of reaching 100m visitors in 2025 appearing increasingly elusive. Arrivals grew by just 2.1pc in November, a sharp drop from earlier months’ double-digit increases, amid factors like rising costs and shifting preferences. Analysts predict around 97m visitors for the full year, highlighting the need for diversification beyond sun-and-sea models to maintain momentum into 2026.

Spain’s Industry Minister Jordi Hereu has hailed the strong 2025 performance as a foundation for advancing towards higher-quality, sustainable tourism in 2026. He said that emphasising responsible practices, the government aims to balance economic benefits with environmental protection, reducing seasonality and promoting premium experiences.

This comes as Spain consolidates its leadership in segments like MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions), which offer high economic impact with lower environmental strain.
