Ireland sent 173,430 visitors to Spain in January 2026, up 7pc from January 2025 and 94.7pc above pre-pandemic levels.

Spain’s tourist arrivals overall stabilised in January 2026 with a modest 1.2pc increase to 5.13m visitors, but spending surged ninepc to €7.805m euros.

The slowdown stemmed from drops in French and German visitors. Extra-hotel accommodation grew 3.6pc with over 6.6m overnight stays, while hotel bookings rose double digits with 36pc advance sales.

England continues to lead source markets with 897,095 tourists (up 3.3pc) while Germany and France saw declines.

Market accommodation grew 5.4pc with hotel stays up 7.3pc while non-market accommodation fell 9.9pc. Most tourists stayed four to seven nights (up 2.1pc) while longer stays over 15 nights dropped 9.1pc. As is normal for the winter months, Canarias received 27.8pc of visitors (up 4.9pc), followed by Cataluña (down 6.2pc) and Comunidad de Madrid (up 8.8pc).
