The ECTAA has welcomed the European Commission’s Communication on a Competitiveness Compass, revealed on 4 February 2025 in Brussels, aimed at enhancing the EU’s global competitiveness and promoting sustainable investments.

Achieving carbon neutrality in travel by 2050 necessitates investments in Sustainable Aviation Fuels and improved EU cross-border rail connectivity.

The European Commission plans to reduce reporting obligations by 25pc across all businesses and 35pc for SMEs to foster a more business-friendly environment.

Frank Oostdam, President of ECTAA, shared “We applaud the European Commission’s strong dedication to simplification and competitiveness. Reducing administrative burdens while improving access to sustainable investment is vital for our industry. Travel agents and tour operators are integral to Europe’s economy, and these measures will help us remain competitive and resilient amidst evolving challenges. The introduction of mechanisms like the “one in, one out” principle and a “cost brake” aims to alleviate regulatory burdens, creating a more business-friendly environment.
