Aer Lingus has launched its 2024 Aer Lingus offers 10 places in 2024 aircraft engineer apprentice programme, offering 10 places with a focus on encouraging a diverse mix of candidates.
Successful applicants will become fully qualified aircraft engineers through the four-year program, working on the latest aviation technology, including the Airbus Neo series, to support Aer Lingus’ future growth.
The programme, in partnership with SOLAS and Technological University Dublin, provides a combination of classroom learning and practical experience, with a focus on line-maintenance and enhancing Aer Lingus’ customer experience.
Aer Lingus maintenance strategy focuses on engagement, empowerment, and investment to deliver high levels of maintenance performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
The airline is investing in digital tools such as AMOS mobile integration, inventory planning optimization, and predictive maintenance technologies like Airbus’ Skywise and Lufthansa Technik’s Aviatar to enhance efficiency and advance toward predictive maintenance.
Aer Lingus’ maintenance division has ramped up operations to meet the aviation industry’s recovery in 2022, managing fleet reactivation, technical performance, and supply chain challenges like parts availability and logistics delays.
Recruitment of skilled professionals remains competitive, prompting the airline to leverage Ireland’s EU membership for talent attraction and emphasize apprenticeship programs to cultivate new engineering talent and ensure a sustainable workforce for its maintenance division.
When selecting suppliers, Aer Lingus prioritises performance over cost, seeking long-term partnerships based on trust, shared goals, and mutual support through challenges.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline reevaluated maintenance contract arrangements, favouring variable costs like flight-hour agreements over fixed-price contracts to adapt to operational uncertainties.
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate strong technical and mechanical skills, enthusiasm, determination, and a willingness to commit to the programme’s four-year duration. They must also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work on their initiative while contributing effectively as part of a team.
Aer Lingus Chief Technical Officer, Javier Jimenez, said: “The Aer Lingus 2024 Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme provides an excellent opportunity for aspiring aircraft engineers to gain practical experience and become fully qualified aircraft engineers at our airline.
