Charlene Hudy, head of the Air Canada pilots union, announced she will resign if members reject a tentative deal with the airline, emphasizing that a “no” vote would indicate she no longer represents their interests.

The proposed contract, reached after a year of negotiations, includes a nearly 42pc wage increase for 5,400 pilots over four years, surpassing recent salary raises awarded to pilots at major U.S. airlines.

Some pilots, particularly newer employees, have expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing wage gap and feel the agreement does not adequately address their pay concerns, especially during the first two years under the new contract structure.

Alongside wages, considerations regarding scheduling and quality of life will play a crucial role in the upcoming ratification vote, as many pilots are balancing career demands with family responsibilities.
