Air Canada flight attendants demonstrated across major Canadian airports in advance of a weekend strike threat. The union, CUPE, aims to bring attention to “poverty wages” and unpaid work during the protests.

The union representing its approximately 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants failed to reach an agreement with the airline overnight. Flight attendants are threatening walk off the job Saturday at 12:58 a.m. ET if a deal isn’t reached by then.

Shanyn Elliott shared that flight attendants make a starting wage of $1,900 per month, placing many below the poverty line.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick shared that flights would not be affected by the demonstrations.
