Air France-KLM has expressed continued interest in acquiring TAP Air Portugal despite previous reports suggesting a loss of interest due to political instability in Portugal.
Portugal’s new minority centre-right government has announced plans to privatise the flag carrier TAP Air Portugal, with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro aiming to fully privatise the airline compared to the previous government’s plan to sell only a 51pc stake.
Other companies, including IAG International Airlines Group, are closely monitoring TAP’s privatization process and have shown interest in acquiring the airline, particularly due to its significant presence in markets like Africa and Brazil.
Both IAG and Air France-KLM are involved in other consolidation projects, with IAG looking to acquire Air Europa and Air France-KLM seeking a majority stake in SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
