Air France-KLM aims to increase its 19.9pc stake in SAS Scandinavian Airlines while pursuing a controlling interest in Air Europa.

CEO Ben Smith indicated the potential to become a majority shareholder in SAS by late 2026 under the agreement made in June 2024.

In March 2024, during an investors’ call, Smith confirmed ongoing discussions with SAS about raising the equity stake.

SAS CEO Anko van der Werff has stated the airline is considering an initial public offering to support growth if Air France-KLM does not exercise its option.

Air Europa has received interest from multiple bidders, including Air France-KLM, Lufthansa Group, and Hainan Airlines, while IAG withdrew its bid in August 2024 due to regulatory concerns.
