Air France pilots have approved the creation of Boost, a low cost subsidiary.

Members of SNPL union went against union advice and approved a draft agreement by 58.1pc, “to outsource part of part of the Boost operation on condition that the subsidiary will not be sold.

Air France wants to use Boost to compete against the Gulf carriers on long-haul flights initially using A340 aircraft, and then A350s from 2019, and with low cost airlines on medium haul, using A320 family aircraft.

The carrier announced plans for the ‘Boost’ project in November last year, which aims to “resume the long-haul offensive and defend the feeder network at its Paris Charles de Gaulle hub, with lower costs”. Boost will commence flying on Air France’s loss making routes in medium haul in autumn 2017 and long haul in 2018.

The agreement states that the subsidiary’s fleet will not exceed 18 medium-haul and ten long-haul aircraft.
