Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, stated that the carrier will postpone exercising its Boeing options until the manufacturer resolves its backlog.

As of January 31, 2025, Air India’s orderbook includes 153 B737 MAX, ten B777-9s, and twenty B787-9s, with further options for fifty MAX and twenty B787-9s.

Air India’s ongoing fleet renewal includes 140 A320-200Ns and other Airbus aircraft ordered in 2023, but delays in delivery are caused by supply chain complications.

Recent route suspensions, such as the Mumbai International-Melbourne Airport and Kochi International-London Gatwick, have resulted from shortages in the B777 aircraft fleet.
