Airbus has delivered the first of 30 A321XLR aircraft to Air Canada on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital. 

The aircraft becomes the first of its type operated in Canada and features a two cabin layout with 14 Air Canada Signature Class seats and 168 Economy seats. Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, the A321XLR offers a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles and 30pc lower fuel burn per seat than previous generation competitor aircraft.

The delivery is a central part of Air Canada’s fleet renewal and network expansion with non stop transatlantic flights from Montreal and Toronto to destinations that include Berlin, Toulouse and Edinburgh. Air Canada operates a fleet of 136 Airbus aircraft and has 61 on order.
