Transporter aircraft will burn less fuel in future. Airbus has announced the renewal of its transatlantic fleet, using lower-emission ships to transport aircraft subassemblies between production facilities in Europe and the United States.
The new fleet, set to enter service from 2026, will generate 50pc fewer CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2023. The vessels will utilise wind-assisted propulsion and cutting-edge technologies like Flettner rotors to reduce fuel consumption and optimise their journey across the Atlantic.
This move aligns with Airbus’ goal of reducing overall industrial emissions by up to 63pc by the end of the decade, in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C pathway. The fleet renewal supports Airbus’ aim to increase A320 family production rates to 75 aircraft per month by 2026.
