The same connectivity as you have on your couch and a digitally rich flying experience will be the norm in the aircraft of the future.
According to Airbus’ Global Services Forecast (GSF), the commercial aircraft services market is expected to almost double in value by 2042, reaching $255bn. This growth is driven by increasing air traffic and the demand for digitally-enabled and connected aircraft.
The forecast was revealed at a press conference in Toulouse and predicts the replacement of over 17,000 aircraft by 2042, leading to market opportunities in reusing, repairing, and recycling aircraft components. More than 90pc of aircraft components can currently be recycled.
Airbus aims to support the industry by providing services that enhance efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and noise. It expects the market for maintenance to grow from $108bn to $210bn, the market for enhancing aircraft to grow from $11bn to $28bn, and the market for training and operating to grow from $11bn to $17bn by 2042.
To fulfill these demands, Airbus estimates a need for an additional 2.2m highly skilled professionals over the next 20 years, including technicians, pilots, and cabin crew.
South Asia, China, and the Middle East are expected to experience the most significant growth in global aviation services, while North America, Europe, China, and the Asia-Pacific region will remain the highest market volume regions.
