American Airlines is discussing a potential large narrowbody aircraft order with both Airbus and Boeing, covering its fleet requirements in the second half of the 2020s and beyond.
The airline’s current narrowbody fleet includes aircraft from both manufacturers: A319s, A320s, A321s, as well as B737-800s and B737-8s.
American Airlines has additional A321s and B737-8s on order, with deliveries expected by the end of 2024.
The airline recently acquired ten A321-200NX aircraft from Alaska Airlines, which are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2024.
Despite the discussions about future orders, American Airlines does not have plans to retire any aircraft in the current decade.
