Aontú members displayed banners on motorway bridges in icy conditions to protest toll increases effective from 1 January 2026. Transport Infrastructure Ireland approved rises linked to inflation affecting the M50 route. Car tolls with tags rose by 10 cents to €2.60 per trip. Buses and coaches now pay up to €4.80 unregistered. Heavy goods vehicles over 10,000kg with video accounts face €7.20 charges.

Ellen Troy shared “There are no bright lights on the horizon for motorists who have been hit with yet another round of motorway toll hikes. It is particularly unfair to introduce toll hikes in January when families are feeling the pinch from the Christmas period.”
