Argentine President Javier Milei has signed Decree No. 844/2024, which allows foreign crews and aircraft to operate domestic flights in Argentina without the need for prior registration or the use of local staff.
The decree aims to deregulate domestic flights, enhancing competition and providing flexibility for reaching various Argentine cities, which Milei’s administration views as essential for the development of the commercial aviation sector.
This follows Decree 747/2024, which ended the requirement for local governments to use national carriers Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral for official transportation, signaling significant changes in aviation policy under the libertarian government.
The new regulations, effective 60 days after issuance, have raised concerns among local unions about job losses in the industry, with union representatives arguing that this policy could exacerbate existing employment challenges.
