The long delayed East Leinster International Airport Project in south Wicklow is progressing despite a ten year delay in entering the planning process.
Antony Martin, CEO, says landowners have moved to ac quire the site and says the project awaits funding for planning phase and still striving to secure preferred site near Arklow.
Project proposed with a 3 km runway on a 600 acre site, aiming to provide an alternative to Dublin Airport and stimulate growth in air travel.
The new airport may straddle Wexford-Wicklow border if preferred site between Gorey and Arklow cannot be secured
Plans were presented to local authorities in 2011 for a ‘no frills’ airport managed by the project. The estimated cost of the airport project ranges from €100m to €150m, with middle eastern backers.
