Armada House in County Clare has reopened after a major €2.5m investment that transformed the property. Acquired by the neighbouring Armada Hotel in July 2022, the historic 19th-century property has been transformed into a luxury 13-bedroom boutique guesthouse.
This redevelopment marks the completion of an extensive three-year refurbishment programme aimed at transforming the early 19th-century property into a “bold luxury” boutique destination.
Originally built in 1807 as a residence for the Moroney family, the house later served as a landlord’s home and a Mercy convent boarding school before being acquired by the Armada Hotel in July 2022.
The new design, led by renowned interior designer Suzie McAdam, draws inspiration from the flora and fauna of The Burren and the Atlantic coastline, using a palette of sea pinks, lichens, and deep ocean blues.

The house features hand-painted ceilings by muralist Michael Dillon, bespoke furniture by John O’Connell, and a curated art collection by leading Irish artists including Mick O’Dea.
Historic artifacts include a piano previously owned by Fred Astaire located in the Piano. Dining includes Mabel’s: A signature breakfast room named after the last lady of the house, serving produce from the hotel’s own farm., The Champagne Room: A dedicated space for high-end refreshments, and The Stables: Converted into a high-tech conferencing and gathering space.
Residents receive complimentary guest experiences, including wine tastings, Irish coffee making, yoga sessions, and guided shore walks
The redevelopment marks a fresh chapter for the venue as a hospitality option in the region. The project included upgrades to facilities to enhance guest offerings. It contributes to local tourism by providing renewed accommodation and services. The reopening reflects continued investment in Ireland’s hospitality sector
