The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other aviation bodies called for the Dutch government to prioritise noise reduction over limiting flights at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
Schiphol has been capped at 478,000 flights for 2025, a reduction from 500,000, yet higher than the previously proposed 460,000 limit by the government.
IATA, Airlines for Europe (A4E), and the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) stated that achieving meaningful noise reduction should be the primary goal, rather than cutting flights.
The Dutch authorities were criticised for exclusively targeting commercial aviation in their noise reduction measures, ignoring contributions from general and business aviation.
KLM has warned that the flight cap could jeopardise the Netherlands’ connectivity and economic reliance on international trade, urging a focus on meeting noise reduction targets instead.
