Cross-border intercity rail services between Belfast and Dublin will receive a €165m investment from the PEACEPLUS Programme to improve the “Enterprise” train service.

The investment will fund the replacement of the existing Enterprise trains with eight new, modern, and sustainable train-sets, enabling an hourly timetable and faster journey times.

The new trains will support goals of net zero carbon emissions, improved accessibility, and passenger experience, with journey times reduced to at least 1 hour 55 minutes between Dublin and Belfast.

The Enterprise Fleet Replacement Programme is a key priority for both the Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland and the Department of Transport in Ireland, aiming to create a more sustainable and efficient rail service in line with the All-Island Strategic Rail Review.
