The next CEO of Boeing should have an understanding of the company’s current crisis and be willing to look outside for best industrial practices, according to Willie Walsh, the Glasnevin born Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Boeing is facing a safety crisis following a mid-air incident involving a 737 MAX plane and plans to replace CEO Dave Calhoun by the end of the year.
Walsh highlighted the importance of learning from past mistakes and sharing that knowledge within the industry.
Despite challenges in the aerospace supply chain and aircraft maintenance industry, Walsh praised Boeing for taking the right steps to address its issues.
Mr Walsh said supply chain problems are not easing as fast as airlines want and could last into 2025 or 2026.
“It’s probably a positive that it’s not getting worse, but I think it’s going to be a feature of the industry for a couple of years to come. We’re trying to ensure that there’s an open dialogue and honesty in addressing the issue.
