Boeing seeks to retract its previous guilty plea related to allegations of regulatory deception before the B737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019.

The Wall Street Journal reported on March 24 that the company hopes for a softer approach from the Department of Justice under the Trump administration.

In July 2024, Boeing agreed to a plea deal which includes a USD243.6 million fine and a three-year independent monitoring period.

Boeing aims to renegotiate its commitment to appoint a monitor while maintaining over USD400 million in compliance and safety investments.

The Alaska Airlines door bolt incident on January 5 of last year, involving a B737-9, led to the reinstatement of charges after Boeing was deemed to have violated the prior deferred prosecution agreement.
