The €10m transformation of Howth Castle into a retail and tourist destination is in doubt following An Bord Pleanála’s denial of a joint appeal by WSHI and the Michael J Wright hospitality group,

The board rejected claims from the developers that a required new road and an additional development contribution of €61,000 were critical for the project, asserting they were unnecessary.

Tetrarch Capital, which acquired Howth Castle and 472 acres in 2019, proposed multiple developments, including a 146-seat restaurant and artisan shops, but faced limitations regarding traffic management and parking space.

Despite the developers’ request for 309 car parking spaces, An Bord Pleanála capped parking at 188 and promoted the use of nearby public transport options, stating that the proposed changes would contravene local development objectives.
