Business aviation lobby groups in Ireland, Europe, and the US have welcomed the Irish Aviation Authority’s (IAA) decision not to cap general aviation (GA) traffic at Dublin for the Winter 2024/2025 season, preventing a ban on non-scheduled flights like business jets.

The US based National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), representing 10,000 members, welcomed the IAA’s April 11 draft decision in a letter, echoing approval from the Irish Business & General Aviation Association (IBGAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) in a joint letter.

All three organizations appreciated the IAA’s “pragmatic,” “logical,” and “common-sense approach” to the GA sector, noting the sector’s importance to the Irish and Dublin economies, including over 2,000 jobs and nearly €1bn in economic contribution despite handling fewer than 18,000 GA passengers in 2023. They do not use Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.

For commercial air traffic, the IAA proposed to cap capacity at 14.4m seats for the Winter 2024 season, a slight increase from the just under 14.3m seats during Winter 2023.
