The Canadian Transportation Agency has denied Turkish Airlines’ request to operate five additional weekly flights between Türkiye and Canada for the IATA summer season in 2025.

Turkish Airlines sought to increase frequencies from Istanbul to Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver between April 1 and October 31, but the request was rejected.

The agency determined that granting the request would alter the existing air transport agreement between Türkiye and Canada beyond the current negotiation process.

Currently, Turkish Airlines is the only direct operator connecting Türkiye and Canada, following Air Canada’s suspension of flights to Istanbul Atatürk in 2017.

The proposed increase would have raised capacity by 42pc, which was deemed excessive by Air Canada and opposed by other stakeholders, including Air Transat and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
