Evan Meade from Clondalkin was given a lifetime ban by Ryanair and fined €2,000 for smoking in the toilet on a flight and refusing to co-operate with cabin crew.

He was arrested on arrival in Dublin from Greece after the captain reported his disruptive behaviour.

He appeared in Dublin District Court before Judge John Hughes charged under the Air Navigation and Transport Act. Meade pleaded guilty to behaviour likely to cause offence on board an aircraft and had 72 previous convictions for other offences.

Despite his barrister’s plea for leniency, the judge gave Meade three months to pay the fine.
