Lufthansa Group is set to finalise its acquisition of a 41% minority stake in ITA Airways today, following regulatory approvals.
The deal involves an investment of EUR325 million, with ITA Airways being the successor to the defunct Alitalia, and was originally cleared by the European Commission under specific competitive conditions.
The acquisition process required the inclusion of remedy measures to ensure fair competition within the EU market and on transatlantic routes between Italy and North America.
The European Commission approved other airlines, including easyJet, IAG International Airlines Group, and Air France-KLM, as suitable participants in the remedy commitments set by Lufthansa and the Italian government during the negotiations.
