Copenhagen Airport handled 3,453,439 passengers in July 2026, representing an increase of 3.6pc compared with the same month in 2025, as the summer holiday season encouraged many Danes and residents of southern Sweden to travel abroad. Two out of every three passengers at Copenhagen Airport are international travellers, while Danish passengers travelling abroad or returning home account for one third of all passengers. Spain and Italy topped the list of the most popular holiday destinations, while more international visitors have made their way to Denmark during the summer period. Rolling annual was 33,834,895, up 8.9pc on the twelve months to the end of July 2025.
Spain was the most popular holiday destination, with Malaga, Majorca, and Barcelona ranking among the most sought-after destinations, with 294,000 passengers travelling between Copenhagen and the 12 Spanish destinations served by direct flights. Italy was the fastest-growing market, taking second place on the list with 11pc more passengers than in 2025, with 263,000 passengers travelling to and from Italy in July. Greece, Turkey, and France followed as the most visited Mediterranean countries, with a total of 1.1m passengers travelling between Copenhagen and one of these five countries, equivalent to one in every three travellers in July.
The trend of travellers from Southern Europe choosing “coolcation” destinations with a milder summer climate has continued, with Denmark ranking highly due to its Scandinavian summer weather and long, light evenings. According to Statistics Denmark, the number of overnight stays from Spain, Italy, France, and Greece increased by 3pc during the first five months of 2026. Copenhagen and Denmark continue to attract European tourists, with more direct air routes making the country more accessible to visitors and supporting jobs, high street businesses, restaurants, museums, and attractions.
Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer at Copenhagen Airport, shared: “July was a month of high travel activity, with many Danes travelling on holiday while Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark continue to attract international visitors, and strong air connectivity makes it easier to travel the world while also making Denmark more accessible to tourists and international businesses.”
