Cork Airport has launched an investment programme to accommodate a target of five million annual passengers, which includes developing a solar farm to supply 25pc of the airport’s electricity needs.

The investment plan features a new mezzanine level, a second aviation fuel farm, expanded security screening, increased gate and car parking capacity, and potential pier extensions.

Planning for the solar farm is set to begin this month, with construction anticipated after the summer peak next year, aiming for completion by Christmas 2025.

Cork Airport is experiencing a projected 9pc increase in passengers for 2024, reaching 3.1m, and has noted a high satisfaction rating of 94.4pc among travellers.
