CSO figures for August confirm that tourists are staying a day less on average in Ireland

Ireland hosted approximately 763,600 foreign visitors in August 2024 , according to new CSO figures, marking a 3.5% increase from August 2023, with the largest group coming from England (35.7%).

The total number of nights spent by visitors was 6.7 million, indicating a decline of 9.2% compared to the previous year, and the average length of stay decreased to 8.7 nights from 9.9 nights in August 2023.

The primary reason for travel was holiday or leisure, accounting for 48.8% of visits, and foreign visitors collectively spent €1.1 billion during their trips, reflecting a 10.2% increase year-over-year.

The average cost per visitor was €1,437, comprised of expenses on fares, accommodation, prepayments, and daily expenditures, which signifies an increase from €1,351 in August 2023.
