CSO figures show pandemic trend of increased tourism to the six counties becoming ‘more consistent’

The Central Statistics Office reported 1.3m overnight trips from the 26 counties to the six counties of Ireland nearly doubled in 2023, up 46pc on 2023.

Tourists from Ireland spent a total of £268m during their visits to the north in 2023, representing a 48pc increase from the previous year’s spending of £181m. There were almost threem overnight stays, a 40pc rise that encompassed various types of trips.

Tourism NI the growth of cross border tourism began during the Covid pandemic, with a 145pc increase in overnight visits since 2019. The positive trend has become more consistent, marking a significant development in tourism relations between the two regions.
