The Department of Sport will not be publishing a review of the estimated cost of hosting the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Limerick in 2027

Fáilte Ireland has been tasked with analysing a previous economic study and providing updated assessments on the economic impact of hosting the Ryder Cup between Europe and the USA at Adare Manor.

The previous estimate of €58m excludes an additional allocation of. It includes:

  • €31m to the European Tour organisation, of which €22.5m is a licence fee,
  • €8.5m towards the annual Irish Open golf tournament other golf events,
  • €8m on marketing of the Ryder Cup in association with the European Tour.
  • The figure excludes €19.365m for transport, security, local authority costs, ceremonies and fan zones
  • These figures are exclusive of Vat, which will be about €5m.

The figures also excludes the input of JP McManus, who acquired Adare in 2014 for a reported €30m, and spent €50m on upgrades, including a course redesign by architect Tom Fazio. The department says that hosting the Ryder Cup at the K Club in 2006 was worth €143m and says it is confident the tournament in Adare “will be worth well in excess of that to the Irish economy. “The new study will include amended figures for the costs of hosting the Ryder Cup, including capital and current investment, total revenue directly generated and a breakdown of revenue impacts, including the indirect impact and the induced impact. The review will also provide figures that will allow as direct a comparison as possible to the economic impact study undertaken for previous Ryder Cups events, including updating the existing economic model. The review is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks and due to commercial reasons, it is not proposed to publish the review.”
