The Open House Dublin festival, running from October 12–20, invites participants to engage in discussions and experiences related to architecture through tours, exhibitions, workshops, and more.
Local events include workshops on outdoor play at the Samuel Beckett Community Centre, architect-led tours of the Dún Laoghaire Baths, and a discussion on revitalizing vacant buildings into homes.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County officials emphasize the festival’s significance in helping communities explore and connect with their built environment, encouraging participation from families and individuals.
The festival aims to address relevant topics such as sustainable building practices and urban design, fostering community development and a deeper appreciation of architecture in daily life.
Jim O’Leary Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said: “Open House Dublin is a calendar highlight in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown each October because of the wonderful opportunity it gives people, including children and families, to discover, explore and enjoy aspects of local architecture and the built environment in a fun and invigorating way. I encourage everyone to join in the wonderful line-up of free events that will be taking place next month.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said: “We’re looking forward to once again opening up our buildings and spaces for everyone for the Open House Dublin festival of architecture this October. Open House Dublin will not only connect people with new and historic buildings, public spaces and civic amenities in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, but importantly, it will also encourage people to think about the places they encounter as they go about their daily lives from different perspectives.”
Andrée Dargan, County Architect, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said: “Open House Dublin is an opportunity to look at current and future aspects of architecture and urban design. It provides an opportunity to find out about real and practical topics, such as ways to revitalise vacant buildings into new homes, sustainable building practices and making people-centred public spaces, all of which are relevant to the civic life and community development of your local area.”
