Copenhagen Airport suspended operations for nearly four hours on Monday 22 September 2025 after two to three large drones were spotted nearby, leading to 51 flights diverted and 109 flights cancelled.

Oslo Airport also encountered a drone sighting on Monday evening, prompting all air traffic to shift to one runway, with 11 flights diverted and 19 flights cancelled.

Both airports reopened early on Tuesday, though passengers faced ongoing delays and some cancelled departures, with advice to check airline status before travelling.

Danish and Norwegian police launched investigations into the incidents, cooperating to assess any links, while noting the drones appeared operated by capable individuals.

Security in northern Europe stays elevated due to rising drone activity in NATO airspace over recent weeks, including Russian-linked incursions prompting British fighter jets to complete their first NATO air policing mission over Poland.

Jakob Hansen shared, “The police have launched an intensive investigation to determine what kind of drones these are.”
