Dubai Airports Company prevented several SpiceJet flights from departing on July 31, 2024, due to “payment issues,” leading to the cancellation of around ten flights and leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
SpiceJet had flights scheduled to various destinations in India on that day, with services to and from Dubai resuming normal operations after the cancellations.
The financial issues faced by SpiceJet include reports of failing to make provident fund contributions for over two and a half years and multiple active insolvency petitions and claims against the airline in courts.
SpiceJet has been raising capital this year, with around INR 10.6 billion raised so far, and plans to raise another INR 30 billion. The funds are intended to stabilize operations, improve the balance sheet, settle legal disputes, and address long-standing arrears.
