Dublin airport has announced details of its proposed low emissions discount scheme.

From ICAO emissions data that is available to Dublin Airport, the aircraft types that  qualify for the scheme currently make up 24pc of the fleet use at Dublin Airport:

  • B787, A350, A330-900, A220, A320neo, B737 MAX 8/9, A321neo, E195-E2, ATR-72

Analysts have added other aircraft types to the potential list:

  • A320ceo, A321ceo, A330-200/300, B737-800, B767, B777, ERJ-190/195, A330F, B737F, B757F.

The scheme applies to scheduled passenger, cargo, and charter operations (based and non-based), excluding General Aviation. It comes into effect from March 31, 2024. Qualifying aircraft receive a discount of 12.5% on the Runway Movement charge and Passenger Service Charge. The discount is determined through a fuel-based approach and the ICAO Emissions databank. It aligns with the airport’s sustainability policy to achieve sustainable growth while rewarding lower emissions.

The scheme applies to scheduled passenger flights with a capacity of 30 seats or more, as well as cargo operations. Operators must meet specific criteria related to landing and take-off fuel consumption, which varies based on aircraft maximum takeoff weight (MTOW).

Qualifying charges are rebated against the operator’s account at the discounted rate. The application period is at the discretion of Dublin Airport. The discount is applied as a rebate to the calculated charge, ensuring transparency. Weighted average discounts are determined based on flown movements in the invoiced period.

Dublin Airport reserves the right to review, withdraw, or amend the Scheme for any qualifying operator. Regular audits ensure fleet use aligns with declared information. Any amendments to the Scheme are published on Dublin Airport’s website.
