Dublin Airport baggage handlers have revealed surprising items in luggage system during the past year. Staff encountered unusual items ranging from human skeletons to rashers passing through the facility.

Dublin Airport handled 19m luggage pieces each year through its vast underground network. The conveyor system spanns an area comparable to seven GAA pitches under Terminals 1 and 2. The operation ensures bags are reunited with passengers at journey’s end despite constant movement.

Dublin Airport shared in a written statement “Most passengers stop thinking about their luggage the moment it disappears behind the rubber flaps at check-in. What happens next – whether it makes the flight where it goes how it’s checked and tracked – is largely a mystery.”
