Dublin has been awarded the Purple Flag for 2025, acknowledging excellence in the evening and night-time economy through a safe, vibrant, and family-friendly cultural offering.

The award, managed by the London-based Association of Town and City Management, reflects the city’s systematic approach to addressing challenges and improving its night-time reputation.

The Dublin Purple Flag initiative involves collaboration between Dublin Town, Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochána, and Fáilte Ireland, aiming to enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors both day and night.

Dublin Town CEO Richard Guiney highlighted the significance of the award as a testament to strong partnerships and efforts to regain public support for the city after dark, while Dublin has maintained Purple Flag status since 2013: “Combined with the expected recommendations of the Taoiseach’s Dublin City Centre Task Force, a platform can be built to deliver an experience for all in the city both day and night. Dubliners love their city and want to reclaim it. We are determined to achieve this. Dublin City centre at night has experienced justifiable criticism, but it is addressing its challenges systematically. Securing the Purple Flag award for 2025 is evidence of the strength of city partnership and our determination to regain public support and engagement in the city, particularly after dark.”
